Karl is a principal at Planetworks and telecommunications engineer with 25+ years of technology innovation, telecommunications and mobile radio experience.
Karl has worked extensively with public safety agencies, industry and standards groups, financial and telecommunications partners and utilities to bring innovative and effective solutions to market, including public safety voice and data communications systems, 2.5G and 3G cellular data systems (CDMA, GPRS and EDGE), Cellular PTT implementations, SCADA, and workforce automation and dispatch systems.
He has significant experience in developing and deploying solutions requiring ‘5NINES’ reliability as well as stringent security, latency and performance requirements.
In addition, he has extensive knowledge and experience in designing and implementing wide-area wireless communication networks to support the voice, data, and CAD/AVL needs of major transportation, power utility and public safety agencies. Karl has designed and implemented systems using cellular technologies; standardized land mobile radio technologies including APCO P25, TETRA, and DMR; and many proprietary radio technologies. He holds six US patents on wireless data technologies.
Prior to joining Planetworks, Karl served as CTO at a high-tech firm developing IP communication solution for financial processing customers and as product director and GM at Motorola’s Vancouver Research and Development Center.
Karl holds a B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia.
